Privacy Policy

Effective October 30, 2026

The short version: DriveTally keeps your driving log on your phone. We don't have accounts, we don't run servers that store your log, we never ask for your location, and we don't use advertising or analytics. We can't see your log, and neither can anyone else unless you share it.

Who we are

DriveTally ("we", "us") is an independent app made in Minnesota. It helps parents and guardians keep the supervised driving log Minnesota requires for teen drivers. Questions about this policy: [email protected].

What the app stores, and where

Everything you enter is saved only in the app's private storage on your device:

InformationWhy
Student's namePrinted at the top of the Minnesota form
Home ZIP code, and its approximate coordinates from the built-in tableTo find local sunrise and sunset times, so drives can be split into day and night minutes
Whether a parent took the supplemental parent classTo show the right hour target (40 or 50)
Names of supervising driversSo you can record who supervised each drive
Drives: dates, start and end times, day and night minutes, supervisor, skills practiced, optional notes; and the start time and supervisor of a drive in progressThe driving log itself
Your list of skillsThe choices shown when you log a drive
Whether the form export has been unlockedSo you don't have to buy it twice

This information is not sent to us or to anyone else. The ZIP code lookup happens inside the app without an internet connection.

What we don't collect

Purchases

The form export is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their own privacy policies. We don't receive your name, email, or payment details. The store tells the app only that the purchase was made, so the app can unlock the feature and restore it if you reinstall.

When information leaves your phone

Only when you choose to. Creating the filled form or exporting a backup opens your phone's share sheet. Whatever you pick (a printer, email, messages, a cloud drive) receives that file under that service's own policies. Your phone's own device backups (iCloud or Google) may include the app's data, according to your phone's settings.

Teens and children

DriveTally is meant to be set up and used by parents and guardians, often together with a teen driver aged 15 to 17. Because the app collects no personal information on our side, we don't collect information from children or teens. It isn't directed to children under 13.

How long information is kept

Your log stays on your device until you delete drives or delete the app. Files you export (the filled form or a backup) stay wherever you saved or sent them.

Deleting your information

Delete a single drive from the Log tab, or delete the app to erase everything it stored. Copies in your phone's own backups (iCloud or Google) or in files you exported aren't removed by deleting the app; delete them there. Because we never receive your log, there is no copy on our side to delete and no account to close.

If you email us

If you contact support, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to send, such as a backup file. We use it only to help you and delete any files you sent when we're done.

Security

Your log is kept in the app's private storage, which your phone's operating system protects. Anyone with access to your unlocked phone can open the app, so use your phone's lock screen.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including Minnesota under the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data a business holds about you. We don't hold your log or other personal data from the app, but you're welcome to contact us at [email protected] with any request or question, and we'll respond within 45 days.

This website

drivetally.app uses no cookies, analytics, or trackers. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and pages requested) for security and reliability.

Changes

If we change how the app handles information, for example by adding an optional feature to share a log between family phones, we'll update this policy and the date above before the change ships, and we'll describe the change in the app's release notes.
